Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training - ASIST

17 Aug 2022 - 31 Mar 2023
1800x300 150dpi course cover ASIST

ASIST is a two-day skills-building workshop that prepares caregivers of all kinds to provide suicide first aid interventions. Professionals, volunteers and informal helpers all need to know how to help persons with thoughts of suicide in ways that increase their suicide safety.

Participation in the full two days is required. Enjoy small group discussions and skills practice based on adult learning principles; experience powerful videos on suicide intervention; feel challenged and safe; learn suicide first aid.

Learning Objectives:

Over the course of their two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:

  • Recognize that caregivers and people are affected by personal and societal attitudes about suicide

  • Provide life-assisting guidance to a person thinking about suicide in a flexible manner

  • Identify what needs to be in a person thinking about suicide’s plan for safety.

  • Demonstrate the skills required to provide suicide first aid to a person thinking about suicide

  • Appreciate the value of improving community resources, including the way that they work together

  • Recognize that suicide prevention is broader than suicide intervention and includes life promotion and self-care for people thinking about suicide and for caregivers

Focusing upon the role of ASIST caregivers in a suicide-safer community, the goal of ASIST is to train caregivers who are willing, ready and able to provide life-assisting, suicide first aid.

ASIST is a comprehensive program of LivingWorks. The Hope Learning Centre has a certified trainer for this course.

** Please note that ASIST is not a Hope Learning Centre course; this is why the course has a fee. **
