Mental Health First AID - MHFA

27 Jun 2022 - 31 Mar 2023
1800x300 150dpi course cover MHFA

Mental Health First AID is like regular first aid, but rather than treating a physical injury, you treat a person who may be experiencing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. When you can recognize the signs of mental problems or mental crisis, you can administer mental health first aid until appropriate professional help is received or until the crisis is resolved.

The course covers the most common mental health illnesses, which include substance disorders, mood disorders such as anxiety and trauma, as well as psychotic disorders. Students will learn how to identify signs and symptoms of these illnesses, the steps needed to help support an individual having a mental health crisis, effective interventions and treatments for mental illness, and how to help a person experiencing a mental health crisis get professional help.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a comprehensive program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. The Hope Learning Centre has a certified trainer for this course.

** Please note that Mental Health First Aid is not a Hope Learning Centre course. This is why the course has a fee. **
